Musical chairs in Medialand
Media are hit hard by the economic slowdown. The savage cost-cuttings at many an editorial office are sad facts of life these days – at Belgian daily De Morgen recently for instance – but there is also the trend toward online only publications or the shutdown of magazines altogether.
Now that the storm has passed us by (or so it seems), it is clear the financial crisis has sparked a game of musical chairs. We present you here the latest ‘changements de decor’:
- Geert Dewaele left Jobat as editor in chief to become assistant editor at daily Het Nieuwsblad. He is now responsible for the expansion of the weekend edition. His place at Jobat is now taken by Wim Verdoodt, previously editorial coordinator.
- Stef Gyssels, formerly editor in chief at IT Professional returns to Smart Business Strategies. FormerI T Professional-journalist Jibbe Van Oost was promoted to assistant editor at ZDNet and IT Professional.be, which, as the name implies, continues as an online only magazine.
- F&G Publishing hired Trix Slot as editor in chief for iAct, a bi-monthly for (direct) marketeers and customer service managers. Trix Slot’s track record includes working as journalist for ‘Thema Nieuws’ and a three year stint as chief editor at Jobat. She helped co-found Jobat Direct and Jobat TV.
- Frédéric Mahoux is no longer editor at Trends/Tendances. Nathalie van Ypersele de Strihou is occupying that seat now.
- Roularta Media Group (RMG) announced that Bizz-journalist Camille van Vyve has been appointed as editor in chief of this magazine. She replaces Nathalie van Ypersele who became editor in chief at Trends-Tendances. Camille van Vyve shall, together with Alain Deneef, who is editorial director of all business and financial titles of RMG, manage the business expansion strategy of Bizz which is profiled as a practical magazine for starters, entrepreneurs and higher management.
Are you still with us? Whether this is the end of this game of musical chairs, or rather whether it is the first part of a series, is hard to tell. We will keep you posted and will bring you the latest developments in media land in our next edition of Satellite.
